The Ganguly-Shastri spat that could have been avoided

After losing to Anil Kumble in the race to Indian cricket team head coach job, Ravi Shastri was quick to acknowledge the appointment of Kumble as the new coach and took to social media platform Twitter to wish him the very best for his upcoming assignments.

However, things took an ugly turn when Shastri lashed out at Sourav Ganguly for his absence during the interview process. He went on to add a footnote saying he had a piece of advice for the Bengali southpaw, viz., "Do turn up for interviews the next time around, especially for a job as important as the coach of the Indian National Cricket Team".

Things could have ended there had Sourav just let it go and remained silent over the issue, but that was not to be. Adding fuel to fire, the Prince of Kolkata responded in a fashion that bore testimony to his aggression, "If Mr Shastri feels that my presence would have made any difference to the outcome, then he is living in a fool's world" and went on to add that " I have a piece of advice for him too, the next time you are giving an interview as important as that of the National Team Coach, take the effort to make a presentation in front of the panel, rather than holidaying in Bangkok and giving it over Skype".

Both of them are to be blamed equally for this unwanted controversy. The recent turn of events could only prove detrimental to the Indian cricket board and the team. Only time can heal the wounds caused by such responses from two of the most respected names in the Indian cricketing history!
