Yes! The Kabaddi season is about to begin. You will get to hear this phrase, “Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi” from every nook and corner of the country for the next few weeks now. India's only Kabaddi League, The Pro Kabaddi League, is back for its season four after three super exciting and successful seasons of the intense edge of the seat affairs. The league is all set to start from June 25 and will go on for a good one month. Initiated by Mashal Sports in 2014, Pro Kabaddi League has taken the sport of Kabaddi in our country to an altogether new level. It brings into light the modern, international and competitive face of the sport throughout India and many other countries where Kabaddi is pursued. Backed by International Kabaddi Federation, the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) and the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), this watershed sporting league has made the sport of Kabaddi an aspirational and popular game amongst the masses in the country.
Like last season, this season will also see eight teams battling it out in the arena for the ultimate title of Kabaddi champion. The participating teams of PKL 2016 are U Mumba, Patna Pirates, Jaipur Pink Panthers, Puneri Paltan, Bengal Warriors, Bengaluru bulls, Telugu Titans and Dabang Delhi. Following the ‘caravan style’ format and the rules laid down by the international Kabaddi Federation, the tournament will feature 60 Kabaddi matches played in some state of the art indoor stadiums across 37 days in 8 participating teams. PKL season 4 will feature a total of 138 players divided across 8 teams, with 24 players being brought and signed up from 12 countries. All the eight franchise team will travel to each venue in order to play 56 league matches, 2 semi-finals, 1 third-fourth position game and a Grand Finale on July 31st at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad.
The inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League, played in 2014 was won by Jaipur Pink Panthers, followed by U Mumba in the second season, while season three of PKL saw Patna Pirates crowned as the new Kabaddi champions. This season is expected to be even more fierce and competitive. The viewership of the league has been increasing leaps and bound year after year. So, if the popularity and craziness for the previous three seasons were anything to go by, expect this season to be super successful and exciting. Don't miss out on this indigenous sport's league that promises guarantees entertainment for everyone!
