The Bangladesh cricket team nicknamed as the Bangla Tigers has been living to its ferocious name for the past few years. They have been making quite the headlines. They managed to go to the quarter-finals of World Cup 2015 and displayed an amazing strength to fight against the major teams. Even during the match against India, an average cricket fan was expecting a big win for India, but Bangladesh made it quite tough for them and made them earn the victory.
Now almost a year has passed on and they have only strengthened their side. What may come as a surprise to people who don’t follow this team is that they have won five consecutive series in past year and these have come against two times against Zimbabwe and once against South Africa, India and Pakistan. So it was no fluke when they beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup has only strengthened the statement that Bangladesh may be the new emerging country in the subcontinent which may at least surpass Pakistan and Sri Lanka who are currently going through quite turbulent times.
The new pace attack, including the experienced Mashrafe Mortaza and the new quick guns like Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed have really troubled the batsmen and the with the spinners like Shakib Al Hasan in the team, only add to the case.
Although Bangladesh beating the same teams outside their home is yet to be seen as they have not played much cricket out of Bangladesh for quite sometime.
In the upcoming World T20 in India, the Bangladeshi fans will go on to give full support to their team after the superb performances they have given in the past year. Also with India playing them in the Asia Cup finals, India will be keen on destroying any hopes of Bangladesh after an ugly spat seen between the teams during last World Cup.
Let’s hope India beat our neighbours in their own den and bring home the cup.
