Vani Kapoor, who recently won her first title as a pro at the Hero-WGAI Women's Pro Tour, talks to Gaurav Jha from Indian Sports News about her preparation for the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open, the area of her game that she is working on, her future plans and much more. Excerpts:
ISN: How are you preparing for Hero Women’s Indian Open?
Vani: This will be my third time in the Hero Women’s Indian Open but first time as professional. Things will be a bit more different this time.
ISN: It will be played on your home course. Will that put extra pressure on you?
Vani: No I don’t think that will put pressure on me. In fact I will be a bit relaxed playing on a course that I know all about. Playing in front of the local people will definitely help me. I will give it my best shot and will try to play my best game without focusing much on the result.
ISN: How will this time be different than the past couple of occasions?
Vani: This time as I will be playing as professional so that will be different. The most important thing is as I am playing as a professional so the money comes in and that will be a massive change.
ISN: You will be competing with some of the best golfers in the Indian Open. You think that will help you?
Vani: Definitely, playing with good international players will certainly help me. I can learn so much from them and can see what they do to be the best in the world. It will be a great experience.
ISN: What are your future plans?
Vani: In future I want to make profit in the tournaments that I play rather than just going there for mere participation. The important thing is that I want to make sure that my game is good enough to qualify for Asian tour. I want to improve my game with every tournament that I play in.
ISN: What are the things that you are working on in your game?
Vani: I am working hard on my fitness to hit long shots. In the past tournaments I noticed that my hitting was not as long as some of the other players so I am working on that. If I am able to hit longs shots than it will give my advantage in other areas.
