ESPN Cricinfo Awards 2011 Winners Unveiled

New Delhi: The ESPN Cricinfo Awards 2011, which honored the best individual performances in the past year (batsmen and bowlers) have awarded Sachin Tendulkar as best individual test batting performance of 2011.He has been awarded the top honors in test batting.

 

Tendulkar won the award for best Test Batting for his stand-out performance against South Africa in the third Test in Cape Town. Tendulkar scored 146 to put India in a position to win; he stood out of the crease, played at nothing if he couldn't play it under his head, and took 48 off 66 balls in two of Dale Steyn's best spells of the match.

 

The legendary Ian Chappell on Sachin Tendulkar,said “Well, everybody knows how great he is and what a tremendous stroke maker, showing his versatility in the Test match in Cape Town. Coming in with India struggling at 28 for 2, and the ball moving around off the seam, Dale Steyn was at his best under these conditions, and Tendulkar showed his class, his true class, in scoring 146. He faced 314 balls which is not Tendulkar-like, the strike rate, but these were precious runs. He hit 17 boundaries and two sixes, and really, the game was turned on the partnership he had with Gautam Gambhir.”

 

The other ESPN cricinfo Awards 2011 winners are consist Doug Bracewel, he was awarded best individual Test Bowling performance for his 6 for 40 against Australia in the Second Test in Hobart. Also, Kevin O’Brien was awarded best individual ODI Batting performance for his 113 against England at last year’s ICC World Cup in Bangalore. Mitchell Johnson was awarded best individual ODI Bowling performance for his 6 for 31 against Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Pallekele.

 

The ESPNcricinfo Awards were first established in 2007. This year’s awards were voted on by a jury of cricket greats and experts, which included Ian Chappell (former Australia captain), Sanjay Manjrekar (former India batsman), Geoffrey Boycott (Former England opener), Ramiz Raja (Former Pakistan cricketer) and Russel Arnold (Former Sri Lanka allrounder).
