Perth: Considering their head to head record in Australia where India enjoy a 2-1 advantage over Sri Lanka it surely does give the World Champions a slight edge over the Island Nation at least on the papers, when these two cricketing giants lock horns against each other in the second ODI in Down Under. Even when these two teams met last time it was the World Cup finals 2011 and India won comprehensively. These fact give would India a little reason to smile but going by the catastrophic performance that both these teams has put on lately nothing could be predicted as to who would run away with the match.
India after a shameful 4-0 Test series whitewash could not start their ODI campaign on the expected lines as their famed batting line up faltered once again in run curtailed opening match up of the series against Australia.
The dashing right-handed opener Virender Sehwag, who was rested in the match against Australia, against all the odds might make a comeback as indicated by the team management which surely would give a lot support to the batting line up. The pitch at the WACA which is expected to be a bouncy might see the axe falling on the spinners and could see Umesh Yadav and Zaheer Khan making it to the playing XI.
Meanwhile on the other hand Sri Lanka who comes into the tournament after a disastrous performance in South Africa would try to redeem themselves and looks a very unpredictable side under their new captain the seasoned Mahela Jayawardene. Sri Lankan bating line up led Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga and the much experienced Kumar Sangakkara likes to bat against India and have it in them to torment the men in blue tomorrow as well. The bowling department without any doubt would be led by Lasith Malinga who has the capability of taking wickets at will.
For the records, Perth had been a high scoring venue and might see a huge total on the board as these teams are very capable of doing so. A fact that also would be doing rounds in Dhoni’s mind is their dreadful third test loss here when the match folded up in two and half days with India conceding an innings defeat.
But India might be able to get their batting in order against the less fiery bowling attack when compared to the Australians.
