Rio de Janeiro: After a relatively good day on Day 4, Indian contingent will see some of their aces fighting for glory in as many as seven sports, including shooting, archery, judo, hockey, weightlifting, rowing, boxing, and tennis on Day 5 of the Rio Olympics. Those in contention include Jitu Rai (men's 50m pistol qualification), Prakash Nanjapaa, Bombayla Devi and Deepika Kumari (archery in the round of 64 individual event), Avtar Singh (India's sole judoka in round of 32 match), Satish Sivalingam (men's 77kg category weightlifting qualification round), rower Dattu Bhokanal in the C/D semifinal, boxer Manoj Kumar (men's Light Welter 65kg category), Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna (mixed doubles tennis). Meanwhile, Indian women's hockey team will fight against Australia in their third pool match.

Deepika defeated higher ranked Kristine Esebua of Georgia in the 1/32 eliminators before getting the better of Italy's Guendalina Sartori of Italy in the 1/16 eliminators.
Boxer Manoj Kumar beat Petrauskas by split decision in the Round of 32 of the men's Light Welterweight (64kg) category at the Riocentrio Pavilion. Manoj dominated all three rounds to win a 29-28, 29-28, 28-29 verdict and advance to the pre-quarterfinals.
