New Delhi: The Indian women's recurve team was forced to settle for a silver medal at the Archery World Cup Stage I in Shanghai after they went down to Chinese Taipei in the final. On the other hand, the men’s recurve team put up a great performance to win the bronze medal by defeating Great Britain.

After defeating top seeds Germany in the semi-final on Friday, Indian women’s recurve team comprising of Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi, and Laxmirani Majhi reached the final in the hope of winning the gold medal. But they had a disappointing start to the match after scoring just one 10 in the first set. The Chinese Taipei trio of Tan Ya-Ting, Le Chien-Ying, Lin Shih-Chia took the opening set 55-51 to go into a two-point lead.

The Indian women bounced back by winning the second set 55-53, but the mistakes followed them again in the third set. A poor shot of five cost India the third set as the Chinese Taipei team shot four 10s to take the set 57-52. Needing a perfect performance in the fourth set to stay alive in the contest, the Indian team falteredunder pressure and managed just one 10 in the crucial set. On the other hand, the Chinese Taipei trio shot four 10s and two 9s to take the set 58-53 andthe gold medal with it.

The men’s recurve team, who had lost to Netherlands in the semi-final on Friday, produced a magnificent performance in the bronze medal match to defeat Great Britain 6-0. The trio of Atanu Das, Jayanta Talukdar, and Mangal Singh Champia looked in full flow in the match and shot five 10s and a 9 to start the match on a high. The Great Britain trio of Patrick Huston, Larry Godfrey, and Kieran Slater struggled against the accuracy of the Indian triad and surrendered the bronze medal without registering any points on the board.

Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das defeated Jo Areum and Park Seong Cheol of South Korea in a close match to the bronze medal. After both pairs won two each of the first four sets, the match went into a shoot-off. The deadlock continued once again after both teams scored 18 points each onthe back on two 9s. But the bronze medal went to India with the second arrow reaching closest to the middle.
