Chennai: Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce the signing of Indian goalkeeper Pawan Kumar.
Pawan joins Chennaiyin FC on loan from I-League club Mumbai FC and will be available for Chennaiyin’s home encounter against NorthEast United at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.
With Karanjit Singh away on duty with the Indian national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Guam on November 12 in Bangalore and Nidhinlal carrying a slight injury, Chennaiyin FC have registered former I-League winner Pawan for their clash with NorthEast United.
Although Pawan’s ISL registration will only be for one game now, the goalkeeper will remain with Chennaiyin FC even beyond this fixture, having signed a four-month loan contract as per AIFF loan contract regulations.
25-year-old Pawan hails from Punjab and started his career with JCT, having also represented India at various age-group levels.
The custodian also had spells at Air India and Salgaocar before joining Bengaluru FC in 2013. Pawan helped Bengaluru FC win the title in their inaugural I-League campaign in 2013-14.
After spending two seasons with Bengaluru FC, Pawan joined Mumbai FC and is now looking forward to his loan stint with Chennaiyin FC in the 2015 Hero Indian Super League.
“I would like to thank Chennaiyin FC for giving me my first opportunity in the ISL. More than half of the league stage has passed but I am still delighted to be in this platform as I would get to learn playing under the legendary Marco Materazzi. I will give my best every day in training and try to repay the faith Chennaiyin have shown in me whenever I get a chance to play,” Pawan said.
