Procam International announces detailed arrangements for Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2014

Procam International, promoters of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon, unveiled the Route Map for the event and outlined the medical facilities and other arrangements that will be put in place for the 32,500 plus participants expected to run on race day. Present on the occasion was Dr Tamorish Kole, Medical Director of the Race, P K Srivastava- Technical Director Race Director, Sunny Joshua - Athletics Federation of India , Hugh Jones, Race Direcotor,P N Sankaran and Vivek B Singh, Jt. Managing Director of Procam International.

Hugh Jones, Race Director, said, "I think the weather is pleasant for the runners. We have a very consistent course with one small change at Sansad Marg. Last year, the turn was very sharp but this time it has been reconfigured using adjustments. This will improve the course for runners," said Hugh Jones, Race Director.

P K Srivastava, Technical Director said, “Athletics Federation of India is proud to be a part of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2014. As a world-class event, the run provides a highly competitive platform to runners and we will do everything it takes to make it smooth and trouble free.

Medical Partner Max Healthcare will ensure that every participant has a safe a healthy run and have made elaborate arrangements for the same.

Dr Tamorish Kole, Senior Consultant and Head- Emergency Medicine, Max Healthcare said, “We at Max Healthcare are proud to partner with ADHM as their healthcare partner for the third consecutive year. This year too, we are fully geared up to welcome the runners. They can be assured of the best care at their disposal and just focus on running. We will be providing three phased care to the runners- pre hospital, on-site and in-hospital. Through our dedicated Emergency Dispatch Center (You can also avail the service by calling 011 4055 4055) we will deploy our Advanced Life Support Crew en route.

We will be establishing 2 base stations( Advanced Level Field Emergency Care setups) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and 7 medical stations throughout the route of the marathon, which will be manned by our team of emergency medical professionals. 6 ambulances will be stationed en-route the marathon in order to reach the runners within minutes if need arises. We have approximately 160 employees including nurses, doctors, paramedics and coordinators who will be on-ground to ensure the smooth flow of the marathon. Our sports medicine expert will also be present at the base stations to take care of the runners who get injured during the marathon. I would like to wish the runners best of luck.”

While giving tips to the runners, Dr Kole further added, “One should stay hydrated and wear proper running shoes, in order to avoid any injuries. Eat a carbohydrate-rich breakfast 2-3 hours before the start, this will give energy while running. Not only the breakfast, but the meal even during the last three days should be rich in carbohydrates like Pasta Potatoes, bread, Low fat milk and yogurt. Do some warm up before the marathon to loosen up your body. Avoid any stress before or while running, run with a calm mind. At last, enjoy your run! Take out time to truly relish your accomplishment of running the marathon.”

To keep all participants sufficiently hydrated there will be 14 water stations along the route, from where around 92,000 litres of water will be distributed. These water stations will also distribute around 28,000 tetra packs to the participants. In addition to this, there will also be four orange stations from where oranges will be distributed to all runners.

Besides these arrangements, there would be sufficient Law & Order and Traffic Police on Race Day to prevent any untoward incidents. Their efforts would be supplemented by 800 private security guards and around 1200 volunteers.

Arrangements have been made for a total of 156 Porta Pottys, from which 72 will be distributed in the holding areas at the J L N Stadium, while 48 will be stationed along the route.

Procam International has always ensured that thorough cleanup drives are conducted immediately after the event to restore the roads to the condition they were in prior to the event. With this in mind, Airtel Delhi Half Marathon is supporting the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiated by the Govt. Of India.

The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon will be telecast live on Star Sports 1, the Channel Partner, from 6.30 am to 10.00 am.

The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2014 for Elite men will start at 6.40 am, followed by the Half Marathon for Elite women at 6.50 am. The DHL Corporate Champions will start at 7.00 am, followed by Half Marathon Amateurs 7.05 am, Champions With Disability Event at 7.30 am, the Senior Citizens’ Run at 8.00 am and the Great Delhi Run at 9.25 am.
