Ajit Agarkar calls it a day, announces retirement from all forms of the game

Mumbai: Former India player and Mumbai pacer Ajit Agarkar announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Wednesday which draws an end to a sixteen year old career during which he played in 26 Tests and 191 ODIs besides leading Mumbai to their 40th Ranji Trophy title last season.

MCA President Ravi Sawant confirmed his retirement by stating the fact that Agarkar did not want to block any youngster’s place in the Mumbai team and thought it was time that he called it a day from all forms of the game and wanted somebody to settle down in the Mumbai team as the season is about to start.

Ajit Agarkar during his tenure in the Indian team was deadly with the new ball and more often than not used to give his team the all important breakthrough. He was the quickest to reach 50 wickets in one-day matches and was no mug with the bat in hand.


Sawant appreciated Ajit Agarkar’s contribution to Indian cricket and Mumbai cricket and wished him all the best for his future.

The 35-year-old Agarkar started his career as a capable batsman by scoring a triple hundred in junior cricket before shifting his focus to pace bowling.

Ajit Agarkar was also a part of the T20 World Cup in 2007 which India went on to win and was a part of the team in the 1999 World Cup and 2007 World Cup. To add to that Agarkar has a Test century at Lords’ which is known as the Mecca of cricket.
