Even as Gautam Gambhir failed yet again in County Cricket, Piyush Chawla again proved his worth by slamming a ton at Lord’s and took his side Somerset from a very dodgy situation of 7/211 to a dominating score of 9/417 against Middlesex on Day 2 of the of a Division One first-class match at Lord's on Thursday. Chawla was dismissed at 112 off 170 balls and was quite happy with his dream of scoring a ton at the Mecca of Cricket.
With this magnificent knock, he has not just fulfilled his dream of scoring a ton but also has given a knock on the door of making a comeback to the national side. The way bowlers were coming hard at him, and that too with the movement they were getting from off the pitch, it surely was not an easy wicket to bat on. But the left-hander applied himself very well and after an hour or so he started getting the confidence of making it big on the day.
Chawla has previously played for Essex and he is bringing all his experience into play for Somerset this season. Since the past couple of years, he has worked on his batting and he believes that doing something good in alien conditions and that too in every department possible will not only make his chances bright, but will also instil a self-confidence for the tough situations.
Apart from his batting skills, his bowling was also quite handy as he bagged three wickets of Somerset with his leg-spin. Chawla is channelizing himself to go step by step and if he keeps performing the way he is in the English conditions, he might make comeback to the national side soon.
