Sachin may get a chance to play his 200th Test on home soil

Kolkata: If reports are to be believed, BCCI is trying to squeeze in a series against West Indies ahead of the South Africa tour, which will start in December. This also means that Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar might play his 200th Test match on home soil. The decision to invite West Indies for two Tests and five one-dayers was taken at the working committee meeting in Kolkata on Sunday.

According to media reports, Mumbai and Kolkata are the likely venues for the much-anticipated matches and the final decision will be taken by the BCCI's tours and fixtures committee.

The champion batsman has so far played 198 Tests, scoring 15,837 runs at an average of 53.86. The top run-getter by quite a mile, Tendulkar has scored 51 hundreds in the five-day format. Tendulkar, who has retired from ODIs and Twenty20s, played 463 50-over games scoring 18.426 runs at an average of 44.83. He struck 49 hundreds in the process.

Meanwhile, West Indies A team will be touring to India next month for Tests, ODI’s and T20 matches. They will be playing three unofficial Test against India A and that will be led by Kirk Edwards whereas in ODI’s and T20’s, Kieran Powell will be leading the side. They will be playing three ODI’s and one T20 on this tour.

Edwards have been awarded with this opportunity because of his recent success against Sri Lanka A where he drew the two Test series and more importantly led West Indies A to 2-1 victory in the ODI series and also to a 1-0 win in two match T20 series.

Meanwhile, Powell is looking to prove his worth by performing well and get back to the national side. He was not picked up because of the injury that he sustained and since then he has not featured in the ICC Champions Trophy, Celkon Mobile Cup Series and home series against Pakistan.
