Kolkata: Cricket Association of Bengal is all set to host a four-day match that will be played under floodlights and with a pink cricket ball. It is not for the first time that the pink balls will be used in a cricket match. They have been used in English county and also in Australian domestic circuit but more on an experimental basis. But it would be for the first time in India that these set of regulations is to be introduced in the game and it will be during the finals of pre-season S K Acharya Memorial Trophy.
CAB has started this tournament as a preparatory tournament for Bengal's Ranji squad. Four teams that would be participating in this event are Bengal A, Bengal B, Odisha and Jharkhand. The tournament will start from the September 15. The final game of the tournament will be hosted at Eden Gardens from October 1-4.
Kookaburra is the company that manufactures these balls and the cost of each ball is approximately INR 6500. The total cost that will be involved in importing them will take it to just above INR 3 lakh.
CAB is going to take this event to a very new level just like they tried couple of decades ago when they organised a Cricket Derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal which was played under floodlights. That match attracted a massive crowd of around 35,000 people who witnessed Sachin Tendulkar playing for East Bengal whereas Javagal Srinath rolled his arm for Mohun Bagan.
This time CAB is also trying to get some Bengali Channels to show the highlights or clippings of the matches.
