IPL to be shifted to a different country

New Delhi: The lucrative Indian Premier league is all set to be shifted to a different country in the upcoming year due to elections which is scheduled to take place around that time of the year in 2014.

While nothing concrete as of now is known to anybody but BCCI is planning to shift the entire league to a different country as a lot of venues and the government have already indicated that they will not be able to provide adequate security for the high profile league around that time of the year.

This is not the first time that something like this might happen as in 2009 due to similar circumstances the entire tournament was shifted to South Africa amidst a lot of controversies but by now we all are aware of the fact that IPL and controversies go hand in hand and there has not been a single season which was not hit by controversies since its inception in the year 2008.

The names of quite a few countries are doing the circles. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are also in contention to host the lucrative league but South Africa are likely to be favourites to get the event, given their prior success a couple of years back when they hosted the IPL back in 2009.

Even though the dates haven’t been declared for the general elections, the BCCI doesn't want to take any risk. They seem to be in touch with the Bangladesh and Sri Lankan cricket boards in case the need arises.

A clear picture will arise once the dates of the general elections are announced. The new IPL governing council team will take a fresh look on the issue after the September 29th BCCI AGM and South Africa can also be a very good off-shore venue.
