Dhwaj Haria moves into next round of National Six Red Snooker Championship

Lucknow: The potting action hotted up in absolute symmetry with the prevailing sultry weather even as the State Bank Indian National Six Red Snooker Championship entered its second day here at the Vijayant Khand, Gomti Nagar situated Mini stadium on Wednesday.

National juniors billiards champion, the lanky cueist from Ahmedabad, Dhwaj Haria continuing his fine consistent run in the 9-day event powered by Indian Oil, was in top gear in the morning, while outplaying Chandan Agarwal from UP in straight frames in the best of seven frames match to register his third straight victory in two days. Haria won without a whimper by 48-10, 27-25, 53-15 and 71-00 points to qualify for the last 64 main stage of the competition. In the last frame, Haria regaled the audience with a quickfire clearance break of 67 to complete his tally.

Also displaying a fine clearance break of 58 was Sanketh Saurabh of Bihar in his match with Hemant Singh Thakur from AP to romp home in seven frames in a very closely contested tie. With the match evenly poised at 3-3 it was anybody's game, but Sanketh playing with diligence, scraped through at 27-45, 58-09, 54-13, 46-31, 31-44, 12-28 and 37-08 points to come out on top.


Meanwhile, local favourite, national junior snooker champion, Malkeet Singh continued his fine show while ousting Mizoram's Lalsengzela by 4 frames to 1 at 39-03, 39-27, 23-38, 32-06 and 41-10 points to record his third straight victory entering the main round of 64 in the process.

Anmoldeep Singh of Punjab was another notable victor of the day as he fought hard to prevail over Sumesh Turki of Jammu and kashmir in seven keenly contested frames. Turki put up a valiant fight in this interesting match, but ultimately the superior potting skills of Anmol Deep saw him through by 29-40, 35-13, 25-56, 40-21, 39-09, 08-39 and 41-24 points to make the main round last 64 grade.


Veteran local player, Kan Kan Shamsi drew deep from his vast experience, to down the youthfulness of Haryana's talented youngster, Sahil Nayyar. With the match tied at 3-3 frames, the decider was a real " cliff hanger ", the game going down the wire on the decisive black ball. Eventually, Shamsi sliced a cushioned kissing black on the top, to pocket a tricky shot of the black for the frame and match by 39-02, 40-03, 00-55, 37-01, 06-30, 23-28 and 33-32 points and qualify for the last 64 round.

Another local boy, Taran Raj Agarwal proved a bit too good for the 9 year old chandigarh sensation, Ranvir Duggal outclassing him by 44-00, 25-32, 42-00, 37-05 and 35-11 points, but Taran still needs to win his evening match to qualify for the main round.

Punjab's Dhruv Verma was another impressive winner on this day downing Hardik Bhatt (Pun) by 36-15, 35-00, 41-15 and 44-32 points.
