New Delhi: The IHF Federation Cup 2013 got underway at the Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi on Tuesday. In the first match of the day Tamil Nadu overcame the Mumbai challenge with a 4-3 win.
Both the teams were tied at 2-2 at half time but the Tamil Nadu side displayed greater discipline and prevailed.
Mumbai had got off to a good start as they took a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes but were unable to sustain the momentum as Tamil Nadu made a strong comeback. For Mumbai Sandeep Singh, Rajat Sharma and K Jayanta scored a goal a piece, where as for Tamil Nadu Stalin David, Adam Sinclair, Sathya and Vinod Rayer scored a goal each.
In the other game of the day, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh shared honours with a 3-3 tie. UP had the lead at half time and after 45 minutes were leading 3-1. Punjab came back well to tie the game. The equalizer came at the very last minute of the game through a penalty corner. For Punjab Varun Kumar, Parvinder Singh and Ajit Pandit scored a goal each. For UP, Diwakar Ram scored a couple and Sunny Sonkar netted one.
