IHF Federation Cup: Haryana beat Manipur, Karnataka edge out Delhi

haryana beat manipurNew Delhi: In the final day of the group matches of the Alchemist IHF Federation Cup 2013, Haryana came over a spirited Manipur to beat them 5-3 and Karnataka pipped past Delhi 5-3.


Karnataka topped pool A to set up a semifinal clash against Uttar Pradesh, who finished second in pool B. In the other semi final pool B winner Punjab will take on Tamil Nadu tomorrow here at the Shivaji stadium.


Manipur, who were demolished in their first two games came up with a spirited performance today and were leading 2-0 at the 24th minute through K Debeshwor's two goals. Haryana's Harish scored in the 35th minute and an own goal in the 37th minute leveled the scores. Here onwards Haryana maintained a steady game and goals from Mukesh Dalal, Amrit Chatha and another one from Harish took Haryana to a 5-2 lead at the 52nd minute. K Debeshwor completed his hattrick with a 59th minute goal but it wasnt enough for Manipur.

karnataka beat delhiIn a Pool A game, Karnataka beat Delhi 5-3 to grab the top position in the group and secure a semifinal berth. Karnataka took the lead in the 13th minute with a goal from Shankar Patil and the tally was doubled by Deepak Bijawad in the 32nd minute. Delhi made a quick comeback and both sides were tied 2-2 at the 52nd minute through goals from Atuldeep and Pradeep Khatri. Deepak Bijawad put Karnataka after two minutes and Kusha J P scored in the 57th minute and Biju Yirkal netted one in the 63rd minute giving Karnataka a 5-2 lead. An own goal from Karnataka in the dying minutes of the game meant the match ended 5-3 in favour of Karnataka.
