India thump Russia to make it into quarterfinals of Women's ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup

Mönchengladbach: India demolished Russia 10-1 to qualify for the quarterfinals of FIH Women's ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup 2013. India finished second behind Australia in Pool C to secure a quarter final berth to be played on Thursday.


 India got off to a brisk start and took the lead in the 7th minute through a Vandana Katariya PC. She scored another goal in the 16th minute to put India 2-0 up. Rani Poonam further extended India's lead in the 21st minute. Rani Poonam added her second of the day and India were 4-0 up with 8 minutes to go in the first half. Vandana Katariya struck again in the 31st minute to complete her hattrick and India was 5-0 at half time.


Russia scored its first and only goal just 40 seconds into the second half through Anastasia Miroshikova but India soon got their act together and went on to score 5 more goals in the second half to register an empahtic victory and qualified for the quarter finals. Rani scored two goals (39', 49'), Arya Ritusha Kumani (44') and Manjit Kaur (69') scored a goal apiece. Russia conceded an own goal in the 66th minute.
