Sports Minister announces Rs 50,000 to each player of junior women hockey team

New Delhi: Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh has announced a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 (Fifty Thousand) to each player of the Junior Women Hockey team who participated in the recently concluded World Cup, 2013 held at Monchengladbach, Germany and created history by winning first ever bronze medal for the country in the event. The cash prize for each coach of the team will be Rs. 25,000 (Twenty Five Thousand).

The 18-member squad led by its captain Sushila Chanu called on the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh at his office here on Wednesday.


Congratulating the team members on their success, the Minister said, “You have made the country proud by winning Bronze Medal in the event.” He said, “The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports stands committed to supporting your endeavour to bring laurels to India in future.”

The members of the team shared their experience during the tournament with the Sports Minister and apprised him about the training and facilities given to them in the run up to the World Cup.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh and Secretary, Sports P.K. Deb along with entire hockey squad celebrated the joyous occasion by cutting a cake. On behalf of the hockey team, Sushila Chanu presented the Minister a T-Shirt and a hockey stick signed by all members of the bronze medal winning squad.
