Champions Trophy: Hits and flops from the match between India and West Indies

India managed to register another comprehensive win as they defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy on Tuesday. It was the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Shikhar Dhawan who ensured this win and took India to the top of the table in Group-B. Shikhar smashed 102 runs and got good support from Rohit Sharma who scored a sensible half-century. Sunil Narine did well to bag couple of wickets but that wasn’t good enough for his side to win this match as Dwayne Bravo and Kemar Roach kept bowling wrong line and length.

Here we bring to you the hits and flops from the match between India and West Indies.

HITS

Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja’s contribution was immense in this match. He pulled off the match in India's favour with his brilliant bowling performance. His second over brought the twist in the match and in his next couple of overs he bagged the wickets of Marlon Samuels and Ramnaresh Sarwan. He finally ended up with the figures of 5 for 36.

Darren Sammy: Sammy batted sensibly and scored 56 runs off 35 balls. He smashed five fours and four sixes in his innings which allowed his side to post a mediocre total. He was decent with the ball as he ended up with the figures of 0/23 in four overs.

Shikhar Dhawan: Dhawan scored his second consecutive century which took India to a cruising victory in this one-sided contest. He smacked 102 runs off 105 balls. The good thing was his intent while chasing the total of 234 runs. His innings was a mixed bag of aggressive shots and timing which allowed him to score 10 fours and one six.

Sunil Narine: Narine was sensational with the ball as he picked up the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He gave his side an outside chance but no other bowler was good enough to capitalise on it. He ended up with the figures for 2/49.

Ishant Sharma: Sharma was looking very impressive with the ball. He kept bowling wicket to wicket on the shorter side which didn’t allow the likes of Keiron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo to free their arms. He ended up with the figures of 1/43.

Rohit Sharma: Sharma gave India an ideal start for the second time in a row which is not just good for middle-order but also for him. He has had a rough patch since one and a half years but with these two innings, he might revive his batting skills. He scored 52 runs in the opening partnership of 101 runs against the Windies.

Johnson Charles: Charles was the only positive in their top-order batting. He smacked 60 runs off 55 balls which gave his side a good start but none of the batsmen was good enough to apply themselves well on the batting track and were restricted to 233 in their 50 overs.

FLOPS

Dwayne Bravo: He played a useless shot on a short delivery which got him out. He was looking good after scoring 25 runs but he wasted the good start. In the bowling department he couldn’t do anything special as he gave away 36 runs in five overs.

Chris Gayle: Gayle had an impressive record in ICC Champions Trophy but brilliant bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar restricted him and the West Indies. He got out after scoring 21 runs.

Ramnaresh Sarwan: Sarwan was expected to play a role of sheath anchor but he did just opposite to that. He got out after scoring just one run off six balls that he faced.

Umesh Yadav: Yadav again turned out to be quite expensive. He dismissed Dwayne Bravo but that ball was not that good to get him a wicket. He ended up with the figures of 1/54 after his nine overs.

Marlon Samuels: He bowled effectively but not good enough to pick up wickets. He was a failure in the batting line-up where West Indies needed him the most. He was undone by Jadeja who bowled a stump-to-stump line to get him leg before wicket.

Kemar Roach: Roach made two mistakes in this match -- one was dropping Shikhar when he was on 41 and the other was bowling short and wide to both the Indian openers who kept on sending his balls for fours. He ended up with the figures of 0/47 after 6 overs.
