Had I dropped Dhoni, the match would have slipped off Mumbai's hands: Pollard

kieron-pollardChennai: An all-round performance by Keiron Pollard helped Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings on their home turf by nine runs here on Saturday. Pollard, who first scored an unbeaten 57 off 38 balls and later took a wicket and an astonishing catch of rampaging MS Dhoni that turned the match in Mumbai's favour, said that he would like to contribute in all departments of the game.

"Felt very relieved after the over that I bowled to Dhoni. I would like to contribute in all the departments of the game. That catch came to me in the end. Had I dropped it, I would let the match gone from Mumbai's hands. I am not a finished product as a bat, but I am trying to do what the team situation requires. I told Harbhajan to just keeping knocking it around and build a partnership," said the man-of-the-match.

Meanwhile Ricky Ponting, who was quite happy with the win, said that partnership between Pollard and Harbhajan Singh gave the a total to defend. "The last two games have gone down the wire but I am happy that we have won this one. The partnership between Pollard and Harbhajan gave us a total that we could defend. The outfield was lusher and bigger than most Indian grounds and that helped us defend the total. Our bowlers did a great job, specially the spinners in the middle overs," said Ponting.

Meanwhile MS Dhoni blamed the poort shot selection by his batsmen for the loss. "The shot selection was bad in this game, the bowlers did very well and kept getting wickets at regular intervals. 150 runs target is what we should have chased. There was a time in the last two overs where I couldn't change strike because we didn't have wickets in hand,” said Dhoni, adding that he didn't know what the strength of the current combination of bowlers were.

“I didn't have much time to interact with the new players before the tournament. We let them try it out and that allowed Mumbai to get away. But we should have chased it target. The pitch was very good and the fast bowlers had bounce. Batsmen could play shots, but it will slow down as the tournament progresses," said Dhoni.
