Team India selection: Selectors have some tough choices to make

raina hai naIndia is all set to announce its squad for the upcoming four-Test series against Australia when the All-India Senior Selection Committee meets at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai on Sunday. Lot of good players had come up in the domestic cricket this season and selectors are looking forward to give them a chance.

Good performances have come up in the ongoing Irani Trophy and recently concluded Ranji Trophy. National selectors will be very pleased with the performances of some players and now they have to take a crucial decision of whom to select in the upcoming Test series against Australia. Here we bring you the probable players who can make it to 15-men squad of Indian Cricket Team.

Wasim Jaffer: He has been in form of his life in the domestic cricket. The kind of maturity he has shown in his batting is good to see. His ability to galvanize the innings is his strength as an opener and he can be an ideal partner for someone like Chetashwar Pujara who has the same approach in his batting. This batting duo can be very effective, especially in Indian conditions. Age should not be a deciding factor because opening combination has been a big problem for India in the two seasons and Jaffer has done well enough to deserve a place in the squad.

Murali Vijay: Vijay was looking very good in the first innings for Rest of India in the ongoing Irani trophy.  He has the caliber to make it to international circuit but he has not been given opportunities in the recent past. He was simply warming-up the benches during the Test series against England. Indian Team needs someone like him who can play big knocks by holding himself at the crease. He can be an ideal opening batsman if Sehwag is being axed from Test squad. His patience and stroke making are his key strengths.

Suresh Raina: Raina has hit the purple patch at the right time. He has been consistent with his batting from the past some months in the shorter format of the game. His prolific run continued against Mumbai as he scored 134 and 71 in first and second innings respectively in the Irani Trophy. He can bat very well with the tail-enders which has been his strength in the recent matches. Apart from that, Raina is one of the best fielders that India ever had. He can make a lot of difference on the field not just with the bat but with his bowling and fielding skills too.

Ambayati Rayudu: His 158 not out in the second innings against Mumbai in the Irani trophy has made him one of the contenders for a spot in the middle order. He has been creating buzz in the domestic cricket for quite some time now with his consistent performances. He has also been doing well in the IPL. His ability to shift gears is one of the primary skills that a Test batsman should have. The way he batted in first innings was looking bit scratchy but in second innings he was looking much better with his water tight defence.

S Sreesanth: He has lived up to the reputation of being fast and furious throughout his bowling. In his one spell he was trying to intimidate Sachin by using short balls at regular intervals. Without a doubt, Kerala Express looks very much ready to take on Aussie batsman. He has that aggression in him for keep picking up wickets in succession. His ability to swing the ball both ways is his key strength add to that his speed makes him a good bowler for Test cricket.

Harbhajan Singh: Turbanator is back to haunt Australian batsmen. His best bowling performance has always been against the Aussies. This time he looks in better touch. He picked up three crucial wickets in the first innings of Irani Trophy. He can be very dangerous against Australian team and selectors would look forward to give him a chance in playing eleven.

Ishwar Pandey: Ishwar Pandey has caught lot of eye balls in this season of Ranji trophy. He had picked up 48 wickets in eight matches of Ranji trophy which in itself speaks volume of his bowling ability. Bowling on flat pitches and picking up wickets is not an easy task. He is a tough guy with a very good fitness level who can be a dark horse in the upcoming series if given a chance. In 2002-2003 it was Irfan Pathan who played against Australia and got lot of attention, same was the story with Ishant sharma and Umesh Yadav in 2008 and 2012 respectively. May be this time we can find one more bowler of International level in Pandey.
