Rahul Dravid, the former Indian Captain and batsman, has been listed, among 24 others for the Padma Bhushan award, India’s third highest civilian honour award. Dravid had won the Arjuna Award in 1998 and was awarded with Padma Shri in 2004.
Dravid, who shouldered a large portion of India’s batting burden during their period of strength at home and abroad for the past 15 years, was nominated six months ago for the highest honor (Khel Ratna award) in sports in India.
During a career of 15 years, he had scored 13,288 runs in Test matches and 10,889 runs in ODIs. He announced his retirement from international cricket last year after the tour of Australia. He is the only cricketer in the list of Padma Bhushan awardees.
