Winning the series is the most important thing, everything else is irrelevant: Virender Sehwag

New Delhi: Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag said that the Indian team is not thinking about taking the revenge for the loss they suffered in England and are only focusing on winning the upcoming four matches Test series.

Speaking in a press conference, Sehwag said, “It is important for us to play well and beat them in the series, winning the series is the most important thing and we are not thinking about anything else.”

Sehwag who recently scored a century against UP in the Ranji Trophy said that he is happy with the performance but it would have been better if the team could have managed to draw the match.

“Obviously I am happy that I scored a century, but I am a bit sad also because we couldn’t draw the match,” he said. In the match he injured his finger and had to get stitches, Sehwag on his injured finger said that it is ok now and there is no problem.

On the preparation ahead of the England series, Sehwag said, “We know that they are a good side and we will have to play well to beat them, we all are waiting for the series to start. Most of our players are playing first class cricket to prepare for the series, hopefully we will do well in the series.”

Sehwag batted in the middle-order for Delhi when he scored the century, but for the upcoming series he said that it will be the team management who will decide the batting order.

“I only batted in the middle order because I had an injury and couldn’t get the medicine on time. In any case, it is the team management that will decide the batting order,” he said.

Virender Sehwag is just one match away from playing his 100th Test match, on that he said, “My dream was to play cricket for India, then when I got selected in the team I had another dream, to play 100 Test matches, I am very excited and hopefully I will deliver in the match.”

On Sachin Tendulkar who will be honored with Order of Australia today, Sehwag said, “It is great to see Sachin getting the award. I am happy for him and will congratulate him in person when I will meet him in the camp.”
