Ranji Trophy: Irfan Pathan hits ton to put Baroda on top

Vadodara: A brilliant unbeaten partnership between Irfan Pathan and Aditya Waghmode took Baroda to 308/4 at the end of the first day of the Ranji Trophy opener against Karnataka being played at Moti Bagh Stadium, Vadodara.

Baroda at one point were reeling at 88/4 when Irfant Pathan walked in, together he and Waghmode scored unbeaten 220 runs for the fifth wicket.

Earlier, Karnataka won the toss and elected to field first, their new ball bowlers justified the decision as Baroda lost their first two wickets with only 21 runs on the board. Then they lost the experienced Ambati Rayudu and Yusuf Pathan.

Irfan Pathan then came to bat at number six and started his innings on an attacking note, Waghmode at the other end played sensibly and gave Pathan maximum strike. Both completed their century before the end of the day’s play.
