Greater Noida: Even though Sebastian Vettel will start Sunday’s race four places ahead of his nearest title rival Fernando Alonso, he feels that there is no room for complacency and anything may happen.
Vettel of Red Bull who clinched the pole position at the Indian Grand Prix here today said it will be a close race.
The German who topped all the practice sessions and the qualifying session in the Buddha International Circuit now has taken five pole positions this season.
Vettel who won here last time took the pole by clocking 1:25.283. He will be joined by his teammate Mark Webber on the starting position of the grid who ended 0.044 seconds behind Vettel.
Lewis Hamilton (1:25.544) was third, followed by Jenson Button (1:25.659) while Alonso, with a fastest lap of 1:25.773, managed fifth position.
“I am happy to be here. The car was fantastic and it was very good that we could work everything well today. I could have been faster, but it has been a great weekend so far. We started the weekend much better than last year,” Vettel told reporters after the qualifying session here.
“It will be a long, close race tomorrow and we will have to push hard. It is the best position to start as Alonso will be behind me, but one can never say anything,” said the two times champion.
