Delhi High Court orders IOA to conduct elections as per Sports Ministry norms

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court’s order to conduct elections for Indian Olympic Association as per as the National Sports Development Code has virtually closed the door for Suresh Kalmadi to contest in the upcoming polls.

The code laid down by the Union Sports Ministry clearly mentions that a person cannot contest elections for post of president of any sports body after turning 70. It also says that a person can continue as the president for 12 years and cannot file his nomination for the third term.

Kalmadi has been the president for 18 years and it means that he will not be allowed to contest the poll this time.
