Bangalore: Legendary batsman Rahul Dravid and young shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa were declared the Best Sportspersons at the Sports Writers’ Association of Bangalore’s (SWAB) awards function at the KSBA hall here yesterday.

Apart from Dravid and Ashwini, other sportspersons were honoured as well. Golfer S. Chikkarangappa and cueist Varsha Sanjeev were declared the Best Junior Sportspersons whereas Karnataka Senior swimming team were named as the Team of the year. National swimming coach Pradeep Kumar was awarded the Best Coach.

G.R. Viswanath was given the Lifetime Achievement.

Awardees:

Best Sportsperson: Male: Rahul Dravid (Cricket); Female: Ashwini Ponnappa (Badminton).

Best Junior Sportsperson: Male: S. Chikkarangappa (Golf); Female: Varsha Sanjeev (Snooker).

Best Coach: Pradeep Kumar (Swimming).

Team of the Year: Senior swimming team.

Lifetime Achievement award: G.R. Viswanath (Cricket).

Special awards for good administration: S. Nataraj (KSBA) and S. Muralidhara (KSCA).
