The Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year is selected through a two tier process. The first stage includes a point based rating table which is based on points scored for batting, bowling and fielding during all test matches and one day internationals. The top five point scorers are thus shortlisted as nominees for the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year.
In the second stage, all cricketers who have represented India in at least one test match or five one-day internationals are asked to 'vote' for their choice for the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year – bringing in a qualitative edge to the judging process. The voting is by secret ballot and is monitored by Professional Management Group.
Besides the above categories, Castrol has instituted two new awards this year:
The Castrol Performance Under Pressure Award – which will be given away to the cricketer who has consistently delivered performance under pressure situations throughout the year
The Castrol stand out Performance Under Pressure Award – which will be presented to the cricketer who has delivered the one stand out performance in an extreme pressure situation which resulted in a crucial victory for the Indian cricket team
