Mumbai: Subramaniam Badrinath will replace VVS Laxman for the two Test match series against New Zealand starting from August 23.
Laxman took the cricketing world by surprise by announcing his retirement with immediate effect after being named in the team for the Test series.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named S. Badrinath as VVS Laxman’s replacement in the Indian team for the Test series against New Zealand, which commences at Hyderabad on 23 August 2012”, Sanjay Jagdale was quoted as saying by a BCCI media release.
Badrinath has played two Test matches for India; his last Test match was against South Africa, way back in February 2010.
Badrinath has played more than 100 matches in the domestic circuit and has been a consistent run-scorer.
