New Delhi: In a bid to facilitate the smooth functioning of hockey in the country, The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has set up a three-member committee to come to a decision as to who would run the sport in the country.
The decision to set up the committee was taken following directions from International Hockey Federation (FIH) last month. The warring bodies- Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation will have to present their cases on August 21st and the panel will come submit their report on August 31st.
The three-member committee comprises the former Wrestling Federation of India president G.S. Mander, the Indian Weightlifting Federation president Birendra Prasad Baishya and the Handball Federation of India secretary-general S.M. Bali.
Talking on the issue, IOA president VK Malhotra during a felicitation ceremony of the Olympic medallists said that “It is high time we resolved the hockey mess and moved on. We are hoping that something concrete comes out by the month-end.”
