London OLympics: Indians in fray on Day 3

After a mixed luck on day two of the London Olympics, Indian Contingent would be put acid test on day three and their performance today would fairly decide where India stands at the ongoing sports extravaganza. There are 12 medals on offer in 24 events and for India they would be vying in two medal events today. Many heavyweights of this record Indian contingent would be seen in action today in different events.

Here is a look at different event Indians who would be seen in action today:

Archery (womens)

Women’s recurve team of Laishram Bombayla Devi, Chekrovolu Swuro and World number 1 Deepika Kumari would take to stage at the historical Lord’s ground. They would be up against the team of Denmark in the elimination round. The team is a serious medal prospect and would look to put their bad performance in the ranking rounds and deliver on the expected lines.

Table Tennis (mens)

Soumyajit Ghosh looked quite a force in his first match, but then the question remains would be able to continue his dream run. The 19 year old Indian playing in his first Olympics ever would face off against Hyok Bong Kim of DPR Korea in the second round

Shooting (womens)

India’s Annu Raj Singh and Henna Sidhu would be engaged in an intense battle when they take to the Royal Artillery Barracks for the qualifying round of the Womens 10m air pistol shooting event.

Expected time: After 1:30 pm

Rowing (single sculls repechage)

India Sawarn Singh would be in engaged in intense battle mid-water with hopes of returning glorious.

Expected time: After 2:15 pm

Badminton

One of the best bet for the Indian Olympic Contingent, Saina Nehwal would start her Olympic quest today at the Wembley Arena against Switzerland's Sabrina Jaquet on Sunday in a group stage. Saina is great form and has won three tournaments already in the year and the whole country would want her to continue her run.

Another crucial match from Wembley would be the women’s doubles competition. Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju would be up against the formidable pair of Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark. Jwala-Diju who lost their opener are in a do-or-die state and a loss today would see them make an early exit from the tournament.

Tennis:

High profiled Indian Tennis contingent would be seen in serious business today with wildcard entrant Somdev Devvarman starting the proceedings of the day for India at the hallowed All England Club. He would face Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the men's singles first round encounter.

Following this match would see the much talked about Indian men’s tennis players in action. Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna would take on Alexander Bury and Max Miryni of Belarus, while the 1996 Atlanta Olympics men's singles bronze medallist Leander Paes would team up with Vishnu Vardhan to take on Robin Hasse and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands.
