Yuvraj Singh, who successfully fought a rare germ cell cancer, has been striving hard to make a comeback into the Indian squad and his efforts have not gone in vain as the dashing left-hander has been picked in the India's 30-member list of probables for the World Twenty20 Championships in Sri Lanka.

Yuvraj’s name appearing on the list does not come as a surprise as the Indian selectors already made it clear that the 2011 World Cup ‘Player Of The Tournament’ is in their scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, with chief selector Krisnamachari Srikkanth saying, “I think a guy who has won the World Cup for us deserves a comeback.”

Though Yuvraj still has a lot of obstacles in his way before he dawns the Indian colors once again, his fight shows the resilience and the will power the man possesses. It was very easy for Yuvraj to have called it a day after he was diagnosed with cancer, but he had different ideas.

Yuvraj has played for more than a decade for India and has won two World Cups and it was easy for a player who has achieved so much in his life to hang his boots. But the Chandigarh cricketer, who played a major role in both the World Cups (One-day and T20) that India won, is not satisfied and wants to keep going.

Yuvraj, who is practicing at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, said after his first net practice that he got tired after about 15 minutes and hoped that his body will improve with time. Yuvraj with his sheer self-belief has come a long way from there and it is a big achievement for him to have his name in the probables’ list.

But all is not done for him as making the cut in the Indian team will not be that easy. There are certain challenges that this fighter still has to face. Yuvraj has been one of the most prolific athletes of the Indian Team for a long time and after his illness, can he maintain same kind of energy level on the field?  Returning to international action requires lot more than practicing in the nets and he will know it better than others being in the game for more than a decade.

Making a comeback in the T20 squad will not be an easy task, as in his absence, some players have become a permanent fixture in the team. And as always, IPL performance will be taken into account and unfortunately Yuvraj missed that tournament as well. So finding a place in the team could be a real problem for him.

Secondly, like on occasions when players are dropped due to their performance they still continue to play domestic cricket, but for Yuvraj he has been out of cricket completely. He is a proven customer for the team and does deserve a chance to play, but then in his absence some young players have done really well and ignoring their performance will be difficult for the team management.

Yes, it does look a bit tough for Yuvraj as even he won’t want the selectors to have him in the team just to show their sympathy. Knowing the fighter he has been he would like to earn his position in the team. Knowing the lion-hearted cricketer that Yuvraj is, it will not be a surprise to see him fighting it out for his third World Cup win.
