Success in Sri Lanka would help Team India set tone for the season, feels Gambhir

Chennai: After a relatively long rest, Team India now is all geared up for a long season ahead and they kick off the proceeding by touring Sri Lanka for a five match ODI series. Well aware of the gruesome test that lies ahead, star Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir feels that they would have to start on a winning note to set the tone, as they would be taking on England and Australia ahead in the season.

“It’s a fresh start to our season and it very important that we pick up some victories early on to gain crucial momentum. We would be playing England and Australia later in the season and it would be great to start with a win,” Gambhir told the reporters here.

Gambhir said that even though the Lankans would be a very tough to beat in its own soil and would be a very tough series but then Team India also has a lot of quality players at their disposal.

When asked as to how is he looking at the series from a personal point of view he said, “As I have said that they are a tough opponent and if I succeed here it will help me in carrying the momentum further.”

Gambhir said that they do not have a fixed strategy and would focus on executing their on-field tactics properly. “No matter how often you play against known players, it is important how you succeed with your plans on field,” he added.

Talking about his designation in the team, Gambhir said that he is least bothered with his position in the side and all that matters to him is the way he sticks to his role and help the team succeed. “I am not bothered about my designation. My job is to play to my potential as a professional and do well for my country and my team,” said the Delhi batsman.
