Chennai: Legendary Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee said that iconic Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest batsmen ever to have taken the field in the history of cricket.
Lillee said that Sachin despite the heights he has reached, remains a very humble man and it is his hunger for the game that amazes him. Lillee, who is set to leave the MRF Pace Foundation after a long stint of 25 years, said that he did cricketing world a huge favor by refusing to take Sachin in when he wanted to be a fast bowler, but admits that he feels a bit embarrassed by his decision.
Lillee recalled the incident saying that Sachin came when he was 15 years old with an ambition of becoming a fast bowler and Lillee advised him to focus on his batting rather than on his bowling.
Lillee said that he saw Sachin batting and hitting the bowlers effortlessly and was mesmerized by his batting potential.
