Euro Cup 2012: Sweden vs France: Hits and flops...

Sweden, who were eliminated from the Euro Cup 2012 after suffering two consecutive defeats, promised everyone to leave the tournament on a good note before their match against France. And as promised they did not fail to deliver and displayed a stunning game of football to beat France 2-0. The loss did not however affect them much as France still did qualify for the last eight but losing a match before the quarterfinals would definitely hit their morale.

Sweden emerged deserving winners of the match and made sure that they do not leave the tournament.

The match had plenty of good performances to offer and also did have some names who failed to live up to their reputation.

Here are some of the hits and flops of the match:

Sweden:

Hits:

Zlatan Ibrahimohivic: The best player of the side, the AC Milan striker was a treat to watch yesterday. He made good runs, tormented the defenders and was responsible for the opening Swedish goal. A cross from the right of corner and Ibrahimohivic found the perfect timing and his volley found the far post. The goal would surely give stiff competition to Mario Balotelli’s superb overhead goal for the best goal of the tournament.

Christian Wilhelmsson: The midfielder came on in the 46th minute and he did impress everyone with his game. He was a livewire on the pitch, made the defenders toil and made some very crafty runs. He created a lot of chances for Sweden.

Flops:

Andreas Granqvist: The right back was tormented and toyed by Frank Ribery throughout the match and his inability to contain him did create some tense moments for Sweden, but then fortunately for him no goals were scored due to his errors.

Hits:

Frank Ribery: He was the only player who could create some sort of tension for Sweden. He made some good runs, was accurate with his passing and deserved a goal for his efforts. He attempted few long range shots but did not help much.

Flops:

Adil Rami: The centre back had a game to forget. He was beaten too easily by the forwards and was seen wandering from his position on many occasions.

Philippe Mexes: He was as woeful Rami and was no match for Sweden in the air. Has picked up a suspension in the next match.
