Euro 2012--Czech Republic vs Greece: Hits & Flops…

After a horrible start to their Euro 2012 campaign, Czech Republic came back on track with a 2-1 win over Greece in their league stage match. Czechs started off well and scored both their goals within the first 10 minutes of the match. They later conceded one but that hardly mattered as they cruised off to their first win in the tournament.

Both the teams had good players at their disposal and some of them performed well and some were off the mark.

Here are some of the hits and flops of the match:

Czech Republic:

Hits:

Theodor Gebre Selassie; He stood rock solid in his right back position and was seen amidst action most of the time. He hardly did disappoint in the match and was very effective while moving up as well. He was the one who set up the second goal with a great cross at the far post.

Petr Jiracek: He was the one who opened the scoring for the team in the third minute of the game. His goal helped the team to calm a lot and after scoring the goal, he continued with his good work both in the midfield and at the back.

Flops:

Milan Baros: Being one of the most experienced players of the team, he required to play with more responsibility but he failed to do so. The striker made a complete mess off himself in the middle and was even finding it hard to trap a ball.

Daniel Kolar: The midfielder was brought in as replacement for injured Tomas Rosicky in the 46th minute. Till Rosicky was on the pitch Czechs had plenty of protection, but after he went off things changed. Kolar was woeful in the middle and was taken off in the 89th minute.

Greece

Hits:

Kyriakos Papadopoulos: He is considered to be one of the biggest emerging talents and he showed it why. Papadopoulos was right on the money and hardly any player was as effective as he was in the match. He manned the defensive line well and was equally good when he moved forward.

Theofanis Gekas: He came on in 46th minutes and took just eight minutes to open the account for Greece. He played well, looked to threaten at times, but could not manage to score the equaliser.

Flops:

Kostas Chalkias: He was finding it very difficult to hold on to the ball and this cost Greece big time. Chalkias the oldest player in the side, let past two simple balls through him and his agonies were ended after he limped off the ground in the 22nd minutes.

Kostas Mitroglou: Came in as a replacement for Konstantinos Fortounis in the 71st minute could not do much for the team rather gave away free kicks at succession due to his violent tackles.
