Euro 2012--England vs France: Hits & Flops…

England and France started off their Euro campaign with a draw after they ended their first match of the tournament locked 1-1. Lot was anticipated before the match, which had its moments but at the end of the day it ended in a 1-1 draw.

The teams had some great names at disposal. Some of them lived up to their names whereas some failed to deliver on the expected lines.

Here are few of the hits and flops of the match:

France

Hits:

Samir Nasri: Arguably the best player of the match, the Manchester City midfielder did not only get the opening goal of the match, but kept England’s defence under constant pressure. He started off as a right midfielder but constantly kept on moving forward to threaten England.

Frank Ribery: He was obviously not at his best but still was a major threat to England and was the man who set up the first goal. He also gave some passes and created some chances and if he can get better than that in the coming matches, other would face a real problem.

Flops:

Adil Remy: He was one of the reasons as to why England could get past the defence on occasions. He could not play to his potential and made many mistakes. Remy was fortunate that his mistakes did not impact the score line much.

Patrice Evra: Lacked the edge and was the man responsible for the free kick which was awarded to England. Was lucky to have avoided bookings and looked least dangerous when he moved forward.

England:

Hits:

Danny Welbeck
: Welbeck never looked to have scored but created major problems for France with his play making. He had created some good chances in the middle but lack of finishing did them in.

John Terry: Terry manned the England’s defence and was dictating terms when it came to that and as good with interception.

Joleon Lescott: He pulled up the equalizer for England of a superb flying header. Lescott had a quite nervous start and gave away possession very easily but the defender grew with the game and started to look dangerous especially while moving forward.

Flops:

Steven Gerrard: He was the man who was expected to lead the English attack but the midfielder could do little justice to his talent. He was the man responsible for producing the free kick which was converted into goal, but barring that he could never do much in the game. He was wayward with his passing and could create moves in the middle.
