The match between Netherlands and Denmark did not turn out to be the way everyone expected it to be as the runners up in the 2010 FIFA World cup surrendered meekly to lose 1-0 in their opening encounter. Both these teams are in group B and are in the group of death with Portugal and Germany being the other two teams. The win has seen Denmark take an early lead in tournament and expect some interesting battles in the group here on.
Here are some of the hits and flops of the group B matchup and what shaped the course of the match:
Denmark:
Hits:
Michael Krohn-Dehli: He was the man behind Denmark’s victory. He scored the lone goal of the match and even if not that he did create many chances to keep Oranje brigade under constant pressure. He was indeed the best player for Denmark yesterday.
Daniel Agger: He was the mainstay of the Danish defence. He brought all his experience into play and not only did he stand like a rock at the back but also made several strides up in front to threaten his Dutch counterparts.
Flops:
Nicklas Bendtner: Being a veteran campaigner for the Danish side, lot was expected out of him in the front. But he disappointed everyone with his lethargic game and was hardly had any influence in the match.
Netherlands:
Hits:
Wesley Sneijder: He proved why is he so highly rated in the football world. Sneijder who forms an integral part of the Dutch attack was right on the money again and created many chances for his side to score but none of them were capitalized on by his teammates.
Flops:
Arjen Robben: The biggest name in Dutch football and arguably the worst player on display last night. He decision proved to be a disaster in the right flank position and his decision making was horrendous.
John Heitinga: The man responsible for the goal after he let Krohn-Dehli go past him, he displayed a game which by no means matched his standards. He committed too many unnecessary fouls.
