EURO 2012 kick started last night with lot being anticipated as to which team might emerge as the winner of the tournament. Going by the quality of the teams and the players nothing can actually be said and so no team does look as a clear favorite.
In the past it has been an unpredictable tournament, especially in 2004 when Greece overwhelmed the giants of European giants to win the tournament to win the team.
With the tournament lasting for over 20 days, and many teams battling it out to attain supremacy in the continent here are the top four teams expected to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament:
Spain: Even though there are no teams who start as a favourite, Spain do certainly hold an edge over others considering their record in the recent past. Spain is the World number 1 ranked team and it they enter the tournament as defending and World Champions. Their track record and style of games does make them a certainty for the semis.
Germany: They were the runners up of the EURO 2008 and would definitely want to look to win the tournament this time. Last time they won the tournament was in 1996 so they would look to end that draught. And also most of their major players had a great club season with their respective clubs and they would be banking on that.
Netherlands: They are grouped in the group of death along with Portugal and Germany. They would have to play their skin out to make it past the first round and then semis finals. They are the runners up of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the kinds of players at their disposal do not get surprised if they go on to win the championship.
Russia: Russia had been a surprise semi-finalist in the last edition won the tournament once and many times came agonizingly close to win it. But unfortunately could not succeed but this time they look a stronger force and with players like Roman Pavlyuchenko, Andrei Ashravin and Alan Dzagoev in their ranks they not only go on to semis but can win the tournament for the second time.
