Kolkata: Former Indian Football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has welcomed Shah Rukh’s Khan move to buy stake at the I-League Club Dempo FC and feels that his association with Indian football would change the face of the game in the country.
“SRK’s association with football will make a big and positive impact on Indian football. Half of the popularity of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is due to him and if joins football then I think more ‘Saas-Bahu serial wallahs would watch football,” said Bhutia at the sidelines of an event.
It was learnt few days back and has been doing round since then that Shah Rukh, who co-owns KKR, has shown interest in acquiring 50% share in Dempo.
The Indian football Icon said that what it would do is that many investors who are skeptical about investing in the sport would the confidence to come forward if SRK invests in Dempo.
“I have been and discussing a lot to get some investors into my team United Sikkim Club. So SRK coming to football will not only help Dempo but others as well,” added Bhutia.
Bhutia jovially said that SRK’s investment just might make Salman Khan invest in United Sikkim and on a serious note if people like them join the bandwagon it would take the game to a different level which would be phenomenal.
Bhutia also said that it SRK took a right decision by trying to invest in Goan football as he feels that with like of Vijay Mallya and Prayag Group, Kolkata has lot of investors.
