India A Windies tour: Opportunity for Rohit, Rahane and company to cement their spot in main team

Indian cricket after a strenuous two months of Indian Premier League would jump back to real action next month when they tour Sri Lanka for a five match ODI series and a t20 international. Well IPL did bring lot of talent to the fore just like every year and even though the composition of the playing XI should not be much experimented still the selectors would have their eyes glued on the India A side that is currently on a tour of West Indies where they would play three four-day matches, three one-dayers and two Twenty20s.

Few players who excelled in the IPL are part of the squad and sure would look forward to impress the selectors by their performance in West Indies as the men in blue have a long season coming up and they know good performance in West Indies does brighten their chance.
Here are five players who can cement their place in the side by the virtue of the performance in the land of Calypso.

Rohit Sharma: He has been one of the prolific batsmen that India has seen in the recent times. But his inconsistency has seen him receiving the axe on couple of times. A regular member of the ODI and t20 side, he has not been able to make a name in the test side. This tour should be an ideal ground for him to prove his mettle at the longer version and a good performance here in West Indies can sure bring him in contention for the number position in the Indian batting line up which was all this while held by Rahul Dravid. He is in race with another talented batsman Virat Kohli for the spot but a good performance can surely give him an edge over the stylish batsman from Delhi.

Parvinder Awana: No Indian player did impress in the IPL like how this man did. Playing in his first IPL he took 17 wickets in just 12 matches. The pacer who plays for Delhi in the Ranji trophy caught everyone’s eye with his ability to swing the ball both ways. Even after an impressive IPL he was not selected in the initial squad that was to tour to West Indies but as destiny had it he came on board to replace the injured RP Singh. He now has an ideal ground to prove himself and a good outing in West Indies sure can earn a senior team call up.

Ajinkya Rahane: He was just murderous in the recently concluded IPL. He was the best batsman for his team Rajasthan Royals and scored 560 runs in 16 matches that he played. He did make his Indian team debut in the England last year in the ODI but could not keep his spot due to inconsistency. He would be raring to prove a point and consolidate his spot in the team considering the long Indian season up ahead.

Manoj Tiwary: One of the most unlucky players of the Indian Team. The aggressive right handed middle order batsmen made his ODI debut in 2008 and last time he played for India he scored a match winning century against the West Indies but then after that even though he was in the side he did not play in any of the matches. Quite sad that a player after scoring a century had to warm the bench for 12 consecutive matches even though he could have given a chance. But nevertheless he still hung on and now since he got a chance he would definitely look forward to prove his point and leave an impression.

Rahul Sharma: One of the prodigies that was unearthed last year in the IPL playing for the Pune Warriors India. He earned his India cap last year but could not impress much and also this year at the IPL he had a very ordinary outing. He has got a chance to prove his stand and with R. Ashwin being the first choice when it comes to pick a spinner for the side, Sharma’s good performance in West Indies can help him competing with Ashwin for the spot in the tea,. And even if not that India would be playing a lot of cricket in sub continent over the coming months and the conditions here always have favored spinners, so that might also help him if ever India decides to play two spinners.
