India clinch a thriller over Pakistan in Azlan Shah Cup

Ipoh (Malaysia): A late goal by SV Sunil helped India clinch a thrilling 2-1 victory over their arch rivals Pakistan in the ongoing Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament played here on Thursday.

A super diving effort by Sunil in the 69th minute helped India win and stay on course to finish tournament on high.

The men in blue drew the first blood of the match in the 30th minute after drag flicker Sandeep Singh converted a penalty corner. Pakistan however equalized in the 59th minute through Sohail Abbas of a penalty corner.

There were chances created in the match but nothing could go either team’s way and only a superb goal by Sunil in the dying moment helped India clinch the victory.

India out of contention from the finals now have a fair good chance at winning the bronze and after winning nine points from six matches would now wait to see as to who would they face in theplayoffs for final positions. Pakistan now have lost four games on the trot and have only three points from five outings.
