Players who got picked up in national team on the basis of their IPL performance

Indian Premier League season five ended a few days back and once again the tournament has proved that it is one of the best platforms for a youngster to showcase his talent. It is a tournament that is telecasted worldwide and it catches the attention of cricket lovers from different parts of the world as players from different countries participate in the competition. There is hardly any good performance that goes unnoticed. IPL-5 has thrown some young players on to the big stage and it will be very hard for their national side to keep them away from the side.

It is not the first time that IPL has produced players who have the ability to be successful at the international circuit. Right from the first season players have been picked on the basis of their IPL performance and they have gone on to do well for their country.

Let’s have a look at some of the players who made their career based on their IPL performance.

Shane Watson: Watson did play for Australia before the IPL started, but he was not the permanent fixture in their team. In the inaugural IPL, Watson blossomed under the captaincy of Shane Warne and was at his best. He was effective with both bat and ball and made his name from the tournament. Right now Watson is one of the most sought after all-rounder and has a very good international record. He is the vice-captain of Australia and is one of the most important players in their side.

R Ashwin: No one knew Ashwin before IPL. He was a consistent wicket-taker in the domestic circuit but no one noticed him for the international scene keeping in mind that Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh were playing for the national side. Ashwin bowled terffecicly in IPL and looked better equipped for the shorter formats than his senior partners. He got the entry in the Indian team and he has made the place his own. He has even replaced Harbhajan Singh from the Test matches.

Yusuf Pathan: Before the IPL started, this player was known as the elder brother of Irfan Pathan who played for Baroda. But the inaugural season of IPL changed everything for him. He played some unbelievable innings in the first season and repeated that in the next two seasons. Pathan was picked in the Indian squad because of his hitting skills. Pathan is always in contention for the T20 squad and he has played some crucial innings in the 50 over match as well.

Shaun Marsh: Marsh shocked each and everyone by the way he performed for Kings XI Punjab. Tom Moody was the coach for KXIP and he brought this talented left-hander. He played some tremendous innings and looked a class player. Later he was picked in the Australian side. He has been in and out from the national team because of injuries, but is considered to take the number three position from Ricky Ponting in the Test side.

Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja was picked in the national team purely on the way he performed in IPL. Jadeja excelled as a cricketer in the shorter format and has been a regular member in the team in the recent past. He is very effective with his slow left arm spin and his late middle order batting and captain MS Dhoni likes to have him in the team.
