Hyderabad: South Africa’s premier fast bowler Dale Steyn who plays for Deccan Chargers could not have chosen a better day to put up his best performance in the tournament. After staying at the bottom of the table for the whole of the tournament, Deccan Chargers riding on a great Steyn spell signed off the tournament on a high note and also their win closed all doors for the Royal Challengers Bangalore to move into the play-offs round.
"I think we have lost games that have been so crucial. To win tonight, a last over finish, I am very happy we pulled it off. There were a lot of emotions coming out in that final over. I was up for the challenge today and it paid off,” said Steyn during the post match presentation.
The match had lot at stake for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they needed a win to qualify for the play-offs never would have expected the Chargers to come back so hard at them. Bangalore surrendered meekly to the fiery Steyn and his spell of 8-3 in four overs sealed their fate.
Talking about getting Chris Gayle early on in the innings, something which changed the course of the match, Steyn said, "In all honesty, it came off tonight. He could have hit me into the stands. In the previous game they got after me."
Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara obviously delighted to have signed off from the tournament on a winning note said "It was a great match to win. Home crowd, last match of the season. Glad that we won."
"Steyn bowled a few good spells. But in a crunch match like this he carried us and this gave lot of confidence to all other boys. He is a nice guy. He helps other bowlers as well. He is the best bowler in the world," said Sangakkara.
The win over Bangalore now has helped Chargers end the tournament on eight position above Pune Warriors India and also helped Chennai Super Kings move into the play-offs.
