Now IPL players alleged to be part of a rave party; Mumbai police detains over 100

Mumbai: It seems controversies have become a part and parcel of Indian Premier League as the last week has seen not less than four cases involved that has put the reputation of the league at shame. It started with the spot fixing sting by a news channel which was followed by the Shah Rukh-MCA spat a day later. Later a more grievous charge of molestation by an American girl on an IPL RCB player Luke Pomersbach rocked the game and now two IPL players including Indian international Rahul Sharma have been alleged to be a part of a rave party in a Mumbai Hotel.

Mumbai police had arrested over 100 people, all young girls and boys last night during a raid at a rave party but were let off this morning. Those detained included a large number of celebrity children and people connected to the film industry. Many of them were foreigners.

The police have arrested the organiser of the party, Vijay Handa, under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The raid was conducted at the famous Oak Woods Hotel in Juhu, where the rave party was being held.

Two IPL players - Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell of Pune Warriors - were also detained on charges of consuming banned drugs. Rahul, however, said that he was at the hotel but at a different party. "I went for a birthday party at Oak Woods Hotel in Juhu. I had just reached there but nobody was present."

His mother too said her son has done no wrong. "My son is fine, he went for a birthday party. How would he know whether people are going to take drugs over there or there is going to be a police raid? My son is fine, there is no problem. He has done no wrong," she said.

Additional Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nagre Patil said that 58 boys and 38 girls were taken to Cooper hospital for a blood and urine test. The police had seized 110 grams of cocaine and drugs like Ecstasy from the spot and the source of the drug is being investigated. (Agencies)
