IPL Match 66: Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings: Hits and flops

Kings XI Punjab put up an all round display in the 66th match of the Indian Premier League to beat the defending champions Chennai Super Kings by six wickets to keep their hopes of qualifying for the play-offs alive. Their win has now seen them move to sixth position on the points table and put a serious dent to CSK’s play-off chances as now with no matches left Chennai would have to wait and watch as to how others teams fare in the remaining matches. Chennai are currently at the fourth position on the points table.

Here are some of the hits and flops of the match:

Hits and flops of Kings XI Punjab:

Hits:

Adam Gilchrist: He came into the side after an injury lay-off and was on the money from the word go. He played brilliantly and even though he was not at his aggressive best but still scored at an impressive strike rate of 139.13. He played throughout the innings and scored 64 of 49 deliveries which included nine fours and two sixes to be named the player of the match.

Bowling attack: Kings XI Punjab bowlers were on fire in the match and never allowed any of the batsmen to settle in the match. The bowling trio of Pravin Kumar (18-2 in four overs), Azhar Mahmood (28-2 in four overs) and Parvinder Awana (12-2 in three overs) ran through their bowling attack and it was largely due to them that the CSK were bundled out for 120.

Flops:

Piyush Chawla: On a day when Chennai was finding it hard to score runs, Piyush Chawla acted generous and the only over he bowled he gave away 12 runs. He was taken off the attack after bowling just one over.

Hits and flops of Chennai Super Kings:

Dwayne Bravo: He was the only player who shone with the bat for Chennai. He scored 48 of 43 balls which included two fours and three sixes. It was due to his innings that Chennai could breach the 100 runs mark.

Flops:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: He has failed miserably throughout the tournament and yesterday was no exception to that. He scored 6 of 16 balls.
