Had I known about the world record, I would have hit more sixes: Chris Gayle

New Delhi: When Chris Gayle gets going, you can only set the field beyond the boundary line. One got to see that when the thunder called Gayle Storm struck Kotla leaving Delhi Daredevils for covers. The Jamaican played a hurricane innings of unbeaten 128 runs jutted with 13 extraordinary sixes. Getting praises from all quarters, Gayle said that good balance was the secret of his success with the bat and that a good pitch always helps his cause of sending the bowlers on leatherhunt.

“The secret behind those sixes is the good balance. And it helps to have a pitch where the ball comes up to the bat. It is natural. It’s natural and I try not to move around as it which does not help, said Gayle, thanking Virat Kohli for his support at the other end.

On being asked how he let an over go without scoring runs, Gayle said that a maiden over is okay as long as I am there till the end. “If I am there it helps my team to get the runs. So it does not matter,” said Gayle, adding in a lighter vein that had had he known about the world record of 16 sixes in T20, he would have hit more.

Meanwhile excited about their win against Daredevils, which puts RCB into contention for the playoffs, captain Virat Kohli said that it was an exciting game of cricket. “It was a good pitch to bat on. Batting with Chris is a wonderful experience. Lot of them could have taken my head off at the non-striker's end. Now we need to win the last game to make it to the playoffs.”

Mahela Jayawardene, who had stood in as a skipper in place Sehwag said with Gayle in such tremendous form, it’s difficult to contain him on a small ground like this. “Still we could chase it down, unfortunately we could not. Morne was the only player rested, Viru was sick, we needed to give Russell a chance. We have played enough T20 cricket to realise this happens and we need to just try and improve from here. We will take back some positives from the game.”
