Two heavyweights will fight each other in the second match of the day in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Both Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils have a very good side on papers and before the tournament started it was speculated that both these teams will have a good chance making it into the play offs.
Delhi has proven everybody right as they have played some world class cricket and have dominated most of the teams that came their way. They are leading the points table with 19 points and is one of the four teams which will feature in play offs.
Chennai on the other hand is struggling and has played some very inconsistent cricket in the tournament so far. CSK has the best record in IPL history and one can’t just rule this team out. CSK pulled up a good win against Royals and will be upbeat about their chances against the table-toppers.
Both teams have some exciting talent; let’s have a look at some of them.
Delhi Daredevils:
David Warner: He is coming on the back of a superb hundred against the Deccan Chargers in which he toyed with the Deccan bowlers. Warner is replacing Pietersen and it is a type of replacement that any team will die to have. He is an explosive batsman and has played some breath-taking innings in the recent past. Chennai will have to get past him if they want to win this match.
Mahela Jayawardene: Captain of the Sri Lankan team hasn’t made much influence in the season so far. He is a class player and can turn up the heat any time he wants. Chennai depends a lot on their spinners and it will be Jayawardene’s duty to dominate the spinners knowing the fact that he is brilliant player against spin bowling.
Varun Aaron: He has had some injury problems in the past but he looks fit now. In the last two matches he has bowled well and he will be looking to continue his form. Aaron is a skitty customer and has the ability to beat the batsmen with his pace.
Morne Morkel: He is the current holder of the purple cap and that proves how effective he has been in this tournament. Morkel has led the Delhi attack quite beautifully and has played key role in some of Delhi’s win. He bowls an awkward length and is a very difficult bowler to get away.
Chennai Super Kings:
Albie Morkel: He has been one of the coolest finishers in IPL-5. Morkel has won Chennai a couple of matches with his bat and can change the course of a game in a matter of few deliveries. He plays his role beautifully and is one of the hardest hitter of the ball.
MS Dhoni: He needs a big innings and he needs it quickly. Dhoni has been struggling in the tournament and his strike rate hasn’t been good at all. He has failed in some crucial situations and that would have frustrated him. Dhoni will have to come up with the goods if he wants his team to do well against the strong Delhi team.
R Ashwin: Ashwin has not been among wickets but he is one of the most economical bowlers going around in this season. He bowls at crucial junctures and delivers the goods more often than not. He is an intelligent cricketer and will know that he will have to be at his best against some powerful Delhi batsmen.
Ravindra Jadeja: He bowled well in the last match and will be looking to carry forward the same momentum. Left-armers are having a great time in this season and Jadeja will be hoping to add on to that fact.
